The NHL has made a press release stating that games have been cancelled through November 1. This doesn’t come as a surprise based on the outcome of yesterday’s negotiations. A total of 135 games have now been cancelled. If the NHL doesn’t get a deal in place within the next week, expect a larger cancellation. By cancelling all games until November 1, the NHL has left the door open for a revised 82-game schedule to start on November 2 if a deal is reached. This revised schedule was made known earlier in the week. October 26 still seems like the deadline for something to be done. That is most likely when more games will be cancelled.

The NHL press release:

The National Hockey League announced today the cancellation of the 2012-13 regular-season schedule through November 1. A total of 135 regular-season games were scheduled for Oct. 11 through Nov. 1.

The cancellation was necessary because of the absence of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL Players’ Association and the NHL.
