  • Senators All Star defenseman Erik Karlsson is skating again after having 70% of his Achilles tendon sliced less than 2 months ago. That’s awesome. Senators All Star defenseman Erik Karlsson trying to make a comeback before the playoffs after having 70% of his Achilles tendon sliced less than 2 months ago. That’s absurd. No one can see into the future, but you have to think him playing again this season is a risk not worth taking. (NBC Sports)
  • The NHL has become the first major American professional sports league to officially partner with a LGBT advocacy group as they, the NHLPA, and the You Can Play Project have teamed up. (You Can Play Project)
  • Earlier this week, Avalance goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere carved into his teammates for their recent play saying that “some guys are more worried about their Vegas trip at the end of the season than playing the games”. That’s certainly an interesting quote to say the least, but more importantly, after saying that he backed it up on the ice in their next game. (Denver Post)

  • On March 5, Rangers defenseman Marc Staal was hit in the eye with a puck. He was not wearing a visor. He regrets that saying,”It was the first thing that went through my mind when I hit the ice. I should have been wearing a visor.” He also gave his thoughts on making visors mandatory. (The Globe and Mail)
  • Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov has been in the news a lot recently, and not for good reasons. With the Flyers struggling this season, many are looking for a scapegoat. Bryzgalov has been pressed into that role as some want the Flyers to buy out his contract. His thoughts? “To be honest, I don’t care. Really, I don’t care. I have no control on this, so why should I care?” He makes a good point. (Courier Post)
  • An agreement has yet to be reached on whether the NHL will participate in the 2014 Sochi Olympics. NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said in a statement: “The parties are committed to continuing to work through the process, but there remains work to be done on all sides.” Vomit. Sounds too much like the lockout. (NHL)
  • Speaking of the lockout(I’m sorry) NHLPA Executive Director Don Fehr reflected on those events saying,”No, it does not feel as if the lockout never happened. If you live through it every day, if you go to the meetings and do everything you have to do, it’s not something which fades from memory very fast.” (Montreal Gazette)
  • Are the Islanders trying to move to Brooklyn a year early? Apparently so. If they strike a deal, the Islanders would begin playing at Barclays Center by the start of the 2014-15 season. (Islanders Point Blank)
  • VIDEO: Steve Ott is a disgusting human being. Also, he licked Jeff Halpern’s visor on a faceoff. If that’s not a case for visors, I don’t know what is. (YouTube)
  • VIDEO: Ilya Bryzgalov calls out the media for him reportedly sleeping in a team meeting. (YouTube)
  • VIDEO: More player’s safety videos from Brendan Shanahan. This one is on non-suspendable headshots where a player’s head moves just prior to contact. (YouTube)
