NHL 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs

The 2013 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs start tomorrow. 16 teams will enter, but only 1 will leave with Lord Stanley’s Cup. So, who’s in and who are they facing?

In the East

(1) Pittsburgh Penguins vs. (8) New York Islanders
Season Series; 4-1, Penguins

(2) Montreal Canadiens vs. (7) Ottawa Senators
Season Series; 2-1-1, Tie

(3) Washington Capitals vs. (6) New York Rangers
Season Series; 2-0-1, Rangers

(4) Boston Bruins vs. (5) Toronto Maple Leafs
Season Series; 3-1, Bruins

In The West

(1) Chicago Blackhawks vs. (8) Minnesota Wild
Season Series; 2-0-1, Blackhawks

(2) Anaheim Ducks vs. (7) Detroit Red Wings
Season Series; 2-1, Red Wings

(3) Vancouver Canucks vs. (6) San Jose Sharks
Season Series; 3-0, Sharks

(4) St. Louis Blues vs. (5) Los Angeles Kings
Season Series; 3-0, Kings

So much can be said for all 16 teams going into the playoffs. Some of the higher seeded teams finished the season below standards, and others took it down to the wire by clinching their seeds in their final game of the season. At that same token, there are a few hungry lower-seeded teams that enter the playoffs hot and with something to prove.

The first round features a lot of 50/50 split possibilities with plenty of room for upsets in the West. Of the eight matchups, four had a season series of 2-1 in some fashion and the other four were heavily one-sided. That said, this the NHL playoffs… where anything can happen.
