Tip Ins is a weekly update for all the news that happened in the NHL.

  • If you’re a fan of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks jersey I have good news for you. The team will be bringing those back next season for a Throwback Night promotion. As part of Anaheim’s 20th anniversary season, the team will compete in Mighty Ducks retro jerseys on October 13th. (Anaheim Ducks)
    • Yesterday, the NHL PR department tweeted a graphic about uniform guidelines that will be “strictly enforced” this season. They quickly deleted said tweet for unknown reasons. It essentially read “Hey, Ovechkin! Untucked that jersey! Hey, Ovechkin! Pull those sleeves over your elbow pads!” These directives come down from the League’s 30 GMs with player safety in mind. I get it. (Icethetics)
    • If you’re a fan of the HBO 24/7 series listen up, because there is a report that they may be doing something similar to that for all the outdoor games this season and for the Olympics. This could be really good. (NBC Sports)

    • As you know, NHL14 came out on Tuesday and they have now released a guide to help you navigate through the new gaming system all the way down to your preferred style of play. (EA Sports)
    • With the possible career-ending foot injury to Carolina defenseman Joni Pitkanen, the debate about hybrid icing has started again as to whether they should finally just implement it. The NHL plans to use it during the preseason this year. (The Globe and Mail)
    • Dan Cleary might not be re-signing with the Detroit Red Wings. Dan Cleary might be close to signing with the Penguins. It’s August and Dan Cleary still hasn’t found a team. Dan Cleary refuses to sign a PTO with Detroit, but wants to stay. Dan Cleary reportedly signs a three-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers. Dan Cleary signs a PTO with the Philadelphia Flyers. Dan Cleary will not be reporting to the Philadelphia Flyers training camp. Dan Cleary signs a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings. What a summer for Dan Cleary. Dan. Cleary. (Sportsnet)
    • The AHL will be introducing a new concept to their All-Star Game this season. Instead of having the best players in both conferences play each other, they plan to have the AHL’s best players taking on SHL(Swedish Hockey League, formerly named Elitserien) team Färjestad BK. I for one think it’s a great idea. (AHL)
    • Among many others, with notable players like Martin Brodeur, Jaromir Jagr, and Teemu Selanne getting ‘up there in years’, it’s possible we may be seeing the last of a few great veteran players. (Spector’s Hockey)
    • Attention: Haters of the shootout. Somewhere down the line, many believe it’s probably gonna be eliminated. Bad news is it’s not anytime soon. Personally, I’m a fan of the shootout, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a little more 4-on-4 in the regular season. Don’t care much for 3-on-3, but the support for it around the NHL is increasing. (Puck Daddy)
    • Sad news out of San Jose. If you’re like me and expected Brent Burns to come to training camp looking like a caveman I have bad news as he’s decided to tame it up a bit. His progression has declined. I’m crushed. And what’s with the ponytail? (Sporting News)
    • VIDEO: Finally. As you know, Bobby Ryan was traded from the Anaheim Ducks to the Ottawa Senators over the summer. You could tell the people of Ottawa were oblivious because he was able to go out in public and do interviews asking fans about Bobby Ryan and very few realized it was him standing right next to them.
