Tip Ins is a weekly update for all the news that happened in the NHL.

  • The Calgary Flames are good. This would be great news if they weren’t rebuilding. When you’re rebuilding, you’re not expected to actually play well. Well, the Flames are playing well. “Jay Feaster and Brian Burke believe in us,” said Flames head coach Bob Hartley. “Let’s prove them right. I said to the players, ‘In life, I’ve always tried to prove people right those who believe in me. Your detractors, you can prove them wrong, but personally I want this group to be a positive group.” Solid coaching right there. (ESPN)
  • So the Flyers fired their head coach Peter Laviolette last week. I know, the season just started. But the Flyers started the season 0-3. Apparently, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren had seen enough. Laviolette’s former assistant coach Craig Berube with be taking his spot. “I thought our training camp, quite frankly, was one of the worst training camps I had ever seen,” club chairman Ed Snider said. So he’s not happy either. (CSN Philly)
  • Tomas Hertl is a San Jose Sharks rookie that scored 4 goals on the New York Rangers. Joe Thornton is not a San Jose Sharks rookie that scored 4 goals on the New York Rangers. But if he did, he would “have my cock out if I scored four goals. I’d have my cock out, stroking it.” His words, not mine. Oh boy. (The Province)

  • Peter Laviolette’s dismissal from the Flyers has people wondering who’s next on the chopping block for NHL coaches? Some of the likely candidates are: Kevin Dineen; Florida Panthers, Kirk Muller; Carolina Hurricanes, Claude Noel; Winnipeg Jets, and Ron Rolston; Buffalo Sabres. (Puck Daddy)
  • The US Olympic Committee (USOC) revised its non-discrimination policy to include ‘sexual orientation,’ which is perhaps the most direct that the USOC will address Russia’s anti-LGBT laws. Good on you,’Merica! USA! USA! USA! (GLAAD)
  • Many people have a good idea of what a good jersey is. But there also many people who THINK they have a good idea of what a good jersey is. Here are your Jersey Fouls. Led by a #17 Blackhawks jersey with “SECONDS” on the nameplate. Boston fans won’t like that. (Puck Daddy)
  • Speaking of jerseys, the Calgary Flames new third jersey may have been leaked by… NHL14. I must say, I am a fan. (Icethetics)
  • Speaking of jerseys(woah), the Czech Republic jersey has been made… public. The Away jersey, me likey. But the Home jersey? It just seems cheap. The Czechs will pretty much be wearing their nations flag. I feel like Nike didn’t even try when it came to Home jersey. (Sports Logos)
  • Speaking of jerseys(wow, major Déjà vu right now), Hockey Canada FINALLY released their Olympic jerseys that absolutely no one has ever seen ever because it’s not like they were leaked like a month ago or anything. (Hockey Canada)
  • Madison Square Garden(home of the New York Rangers) his decided to jump on the “Hey,let’s get a huge scoreboard!” bandwagon that the Tampa Bay Lightning and Colorado Avalanche have gotten on. Madison Square Garden’s screens aren’t as ridiculous, however it does cast a shadow. And it’s a big one. Right, because Madison Square Garden needed to be a little darker. (New York Rangers Blog)
  • VIDEO: Who doesn’t like a good old-fashioned hockey line brawl(minus last week’s reports, of course)? Well here you go. Here’s an OHL brawl for you between the Niagara IceDogs and the Owen Sound Attack. The goalies get involved. And there’s some abuse of officials. Fun, fun, fun. (YouTube)
