  • Like Tuesday’s meeting, Wednesday’s meeting went past midnight. At one point both sides left for dinner, then returned, then owners left, then returned. I kid you not, at one point Steve Fehr handed out pizza and cookies to the media. NHL staffers later brought milkshakes for the owners. The night was then capped off with some leaks from the NHL’s counter-proposal. (Hockey City)
  • The long-awaited Tuesday meeting finally came and went. Though it didn’t yield a shiny new CBA, it was a good enough meeting to have Steve Fehr say,”I think it’s the best day we’ve had”. Lots of optimism. On top of that, for the first time after a meeting, he and Bill Daly held a side-by-side press conference. (Hockey City)
  • According to Nick Kypreos: “Gary (Bettman) is ready to get a deal done. He wants this thing done Friday. Friday!” Well, today’s Thursday. Tomorrow’s a new day. Lets hope he’s right. (Edmonton Journal)

  • There’s been a lot of decertification talk recently. Some people have an idea of what it means, but most don’t know the ramifications. One being that doing this could end the season entirely. Here’s a Decertification Q & A to help. (CBC)
  • On last weeks Tip Ins, we talked about Washington Capitals defenseman Roman Hamrlik making selfish comments about the lockout and firing Donald Fehr. Montreal Canadiens’ forward Erik Cole sounded off against him. Though Caps goalie Michal Neuvirth “100% agreed” with Hamrlik in the beginning, he has since apologized. Caps forward Troy Brouwer then said his teammates were “selling us [the union] out”. Even Winnipeg Jets’ captain Andrew Ladd took a few shots. Then the other Caps goalie, Braden Holtby said he agreed with Brouwer. Man. This lockout is going to be the end of the Washington Capitals. Donald Fehr’s thoughts on Hamrlik’s comments? He’s cool with it. (NBC Sports)
  • The Phoenix Coyotes have a home! Glendale City Council voted Tuesday night to approve a 20-year arena lease with potential Coyotes buyer Greg Jamison. Yes they have a home, but they still don’t have a non-NHL owner. They have until January 31, 2013 to change that, otherwise, the entire voting process starts over. Good luck with that. I can imagine Gary Bettman walking in and telling Don and Steve Fehr is Deadline Day (Doug Savage)

  • Last week the NHL owners put forth a CBA proposal that was based on the season having 82 games. The only caveat is that the NHLPA had to agree to it by today. Yes, because these two parties are known for meeting their deadlines. As you can tell, that hasn’t happened. The day isn’t over yet, but don’t get your hopes up. Why? Because the NHL is refusing to meet with the NHLPA. Yep. The NHL sure is working “around the clock” to reach a new labor deal. (TSN)

The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York (Journal Times)

Earlier, the New York Islanders sent out a press release eluding to a “major announcement” at 1pm. The speculation was that the New York Islanders would be relocating to the shiny — rusty — new Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

At the press conference, New York Islanders Owner Charles B. Wang made it official and the team sent out the following:

The NHL’s proposal calls for a 50/50 split in Hockey Related Revenue (HRR).

  • Wednesday morning, the NHL revealed their new CBA offer. It was far more sensible than their last offer, which was only good for wiping your feet so you don’t get mud on the nice carpet. They even gave us a simplified version. That was so nice of the NHL. (NHL)
  • Opening Day attendance was way up as the AHL, as expected. This reaps the benefits of the NHL lockout. (CBC)
  • If you were looking for a lengthy Sidney Crosby interview, you’ve come to the right place. In the interview, he fans the flames of the Pittsburgh-Philadelphia rivalry. Crosby on accusations from Flyers’ Claude Giroux that he broke both his wrists: “I guess I’m not apologetic. I was trying to win a faceoff and if I caught his wrist, then I caught his wrist.” Oh, I can feel the hate. (Empty Netters)
