This is an actual photo from one of the CBA meetings…I think. (Charles Fincher)

  • There’s been a lot of decertification talk recently. Some people have an idea of what it means, but most don’t know the ramifications. One being that doing this could end the season entirely. Here’s a Decertification Q & A to help. (CBC)
  • On last weeks Tip Ins, we talked about Washington Capitals defenseman Roman Hamrlik making selfish comments about the lockout and firing Donald Fehr. Montreal Canadiens’ forward Erik Cole sounded off against him. Though Caps goalie Michal Neuvirth “100% agreed” with Hamrlik in the beginning, he has since apologized. Caps forward Troy Brouwer then said his teammates were “selling us [the union] out”. Even Winnipeg Jets’ captain Andrew Ladd took a few shots. Then the other Caps goalie, Braden Holtby said he agreed with Brouwer. Man. This lockout is going to be the end of the Washington Capitals. Donald Fehr’s thoughts on Hamrlik’s comments? He’s cool with it. (NBC Sports)
  • The Phoenix Coyotes have a home! Glendale City Council voted Tuesday night to approve a 20-year arena lease with potential Coyotes buyer Greg Jamison. Yes they have a home, but they still don’t have a non-NHL owner. They have until January 31, 2013 to change that, otherwise, the entire voting process starts over. Good luck with that. First off, I’d like to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all our American readers. To our non-Americans, Happy Thursday. Also, we’re sorry, but there will not be a Hockey City Live podcast this week. We apologize for the inconvenience. We’ll be back next week.

Gary Bettman is currently in the third lockout of his tenure as NHL Commissioner. (AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Chris Young)

  • Bad news. We can’t impeach Gary Bettman. But here’s a laundry list of legitimate reasons why he should no longer be the NHL Commissioner, including but not limited to, “because he sucks”. The article also goes into detail of why the NHL shouldn’t be run like the NBA. (Grantland)
  • The NHLPA sent the NHL a new proposal yesterday. Unfortunately, just like the others, this one was turned down. The offer was thought to be moving closer to what the NHL wants. That said, a source told ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun that the owners are willing to budge on some contracting rights. So there’s progress. Just not enough. (ESPN)
  • Last Friday, Claude Giroux was checked in the head by a Krefeld Pinguine player while playing in Germany. He recently returned to America with a neck injury. He’s set to visit concussion specialist Ted Carrick next week. It’s all being billed as precautionary. Man. The Penguins-Flyers rivalry transcends all languages. (Broad Street Hockey)

Wayne Simmonds at the bench during a game in the Czech Republic where racist chants were yelled at him by the Piráti Chomutov fans. (Tipsport)

  • We kick off today talking about Czech fans chanting “Opice!”(which means “monkey” in English) at Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds. You know. Because being a racist prick is still a thing. (Puck Daddy)
  • Speaking of racist pricks, Tyler Bozak is in the news. No, not because he’s a racist prick, but people are calling him that because he dressed in blackface for Halloween as he was portraying Michael Jackson. I don’t think Bozak is racist, but I do think it was a little reckless. Did he not see the backlash Raffi Torres got when he did it? After tweeting(then deleting) the picture, Bozak said,“That’s a tribute to one of my fave artists. For anyone saying its racist is crazy!” (St. Catharine’s Standard)
  • Hockey Canada has release a free Concussion Awareness app that gives you information on concussions meanwhile focusing on prevention and symptoms. (Hockey Canada)

The NHL’s proposal calls for a 50/50 split in Hockey Related Revenue (HRR).

  • Wednesday morning, the NHL revealed their new CBA offer. It was far more sensible than their last offer, which was only good for wiping your feet so you don’t get mud on the nice carpet. They even gave us a simplified version. That was so nice of the NHL. (NHL)
  • Opening Day attendance was way up as the AHL, as expected. This reaps the benefits of the NHL lockout. (CBC)
  • If you were looking for a lengthy Sidney Crosby interview, you’ve come to the right place. In the interview, he fans the flames of the Pittsburgh-Philadelphia rivalry. Crosby on accusations from Flyers’ Claude Giroux that he broke both his wrists: “I guess I’m not apologetic. I was trying to win a faceoff and if I caught his wrist, then I caught his wrist.” Oh, I can feel the hate. (Empty Netters)
